NLP – your business friend

Neuro-linguistic programming is a model which helps us achieve our goals, improve communication and change habits and behaviors in business world, everyday communication and cooperation with other people.

In our everyday work environment we cooperate with people who perceive world, events and people around them in a totally different way from our own, and have completely different perception from our own. NLP helps us bridge individual differences by recognizing the way people are thinking (Neuro), the way they communicate and the meaning of their words (Linguistic) and why they behave that way (Programming). It helps us learn to accept the behaviors which are consequence of some other way of thinking, different perception from our own.

Communication skills – business success or … ?

communication

Question “Are we successful in contemporary business?”, no matter from which perspective we observe it, ultimately comes down to the subject of our communication skills – are they good enough? Which question should we ask a future candidate for a position in our team in order to find out from his answer how to motivate him easily for his job?

How to present the project, to sell the product? NLP is above all communication model which introduces us with the way we process information we perceive from the outside world. Besides metaprograms, most commonly unconsciousness patterns of processing information coming from the outside world that help us find out what motivates the other person in communication, whether he prefers options or procedures, whether he is focused on problem or on result, NLP shows us models that tell us how to address the other person using their communication style, how to be more clear and thus influence them.

How to really impress our client, colleague, boss with our words and presentation? If we should present to our manager what we can gain with the project or what we can avoid with it depends only on his metaprogram, on what is more important for him to hear.

Goals

goals

Clear goal definition is one of the prerequisites of success, still 95% of people don’t set their goals. Should we assume who these people work for? The answer is – for the 5% of people who do set their goals.

Besides S.M.A.R.T. model, NLP has specific approach to goal setting which goes further and provide us with a way to program our mind so it can lead us to desired results. NLP model presents goals through our senses, images, sounds and feelings, what we see, hear or feel when we reach the goal.

Our attention will consequently be focused on internal and external resources which help us move from current to desired condition because our brain creates experiences and recognize resources via our senses. NLP also teaches us how to transform company vision into strategy and action steps.

Stress in workplace

We often say that business related stress comes both from internal and external causes. Procrastination, overwork and poor time management are internal problems causing stress. Bad atmosphere in a work environment, business politics that we do not approve of and possible loss of job are some of external stress sources. We can eliminate internal sources of stress by changing of our actions and habits.

On the other side, we can’t control external stress sources or events around us, but we can change our reaction to those. Change in attitude and the way of thinking will help us see and experience events in a different way. By using NLP techniques we can change some of our behaviors in certain situations.

For example, we can transform undesirable behavior of explosive emotional reaction, verbal conflict or strong desire to quit our job after we receive a critic from our boss into some desirable behavior with a help of an adequate NLP technique.

NLP techniques application in business context is very wide, beginning with project management, HR communication etc. Most frequent benefit people receive from NLP trainings are results of goal setting – people are surprised by the percentage of successful goal achievements.
